This document describes how Knowledge Vault's affiliate program works: how you become a founder, when you earn a cash commission, and when you don't. It's part of our Terms of Service. For everything related to your data (including your bank account number), see our Privacy Policy.
Anyone with an account can become a founder, as soon as the first payment of a subscription of at least the Limited plan is confirmed (the cheapest plan, Chat & Storage, doesn't count). With SEPA direct debit that confirmation can come a few business days after checkout; until then you're not a founder yet. There are a maximum of 1,000 active founder spots at a time. If a founder cancels their subscription, their spot frees up for the next new subscriber. As soon as you become a founder, you get a personal founder code you can share.
You earn a commission when someone signs up to Knowledge Vault with your founder code, and that person takes out a yearly plan.
Important: a monthly plan never earns a commission — even if that person keeps paying monthly for years. Only the moment someone actually takes out a yearly plan counts. This differs from the earlier points system, where an ongoing monthly plan did count.
There's no limit on how many people you can refer, with a total maximum of 5,000 referrals across all founders combined. Once that maximum is reached, your code no longer produces new referrals.
Your commission is 10% of the yearly amount the referred person pays:
Chat & Storage isn't listed here: that plan never counts as a referral in the first place (see section 2). These amounts can change if our subscription prices change — see section 10.
Each referred person earns you a commission only once, ever — even if they later take out another yearly plan (for example after cancelling and signing up again).
Payout happens manually, via a regular bank transfer. To be paid, fill in your bank account number (IBAN) and the account holder's name on your founder dashboard. Without a bank account number, we can't pay you out.
A commission is only paid out once the payment that earned it can no longer be reversed: a SEPA direct debit can be reclaimed by the payer for up to 8 weeks after the debit, so we wait at least 8 weeks after that payment. If you change your bank account number, we additionally wait 7 days after that change (you get an email about it), so you can react if the change wasn't yours.
If you delete your account before a commission has been paid out, the pending commissions are forfeited: your founder profile is then removed completely and nothing is paid out anymore. The confirmation screen shows beforehand which amount is pending and from when it would have been paid.
We can also reverse a commission that's already been granted — or even already paid out — for example in case of abuse, or when a payment is later reclaimed. You can see the status of each commission (earned, paid, reversed) on your founder dashboard.
The commission you receive may be taxable income for you. You're responsible for finding out what that means for your personal situation, and for declaring it correctly.
We can change or end this affiliate program at any time. If we do, we'll announce it in advance with reasonable notice. Any commissions you've already earned by that point will still be paid out regardless.
