Terms of Service — Knowledge Vault

1. Definitions and applicability

• "Knowledge Vault", "we", "us": the provider of the Service (full identification details on the last page)
• "User", "you": the person who creates an account and uses the service
• "Service": the Knowledge Vault application (document management, AI question feature, quizzes/practice exams, group chat, subscriptions)

By creating an account (registration or Google login), you agree to these terms.

2. The service

Knowledge Vault allows users to upload study documents and ask questions via AI (Anthropic's Claude), create quizzes, and generate practice exams based on their own documents. We also offer a group chat per course, and subscription plans with usage limits.

3. Account and registration

• Registration via email and password (with mandatory email verification), or via Google
• You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential
• You must be at least 16 years old to create an account

4. Subscriptions and payment

• Knowledge Vault offers several subscription plans, each with its own features and usage limits
• Payments are processed securely via Stripe (SEPA direct debit); we do not store payment card or bank account details ourselves
• Subscriptions are monthly or yearly, as you choose, and renew automatically unless cancelled in time (you cancel via your account settings); a yearly plan costs ten times the monthly price
• You get access immediately after checkout, before your first SEPA payment is confirmed (that can take a few business days). If that payment fails, access is suspended until it succeeds; if a payment of yours failed before, a new purchase only gives access once the payment is confirmed. Switching plans is only possible after your first payment is confirmed
• Usage limits (AI questions, quizzes, practice exams, scanned pages, storage) are listed per plan on the pricing page; they apply per month — also on a yearly plan — and unused allowance does not carry over
• New users can try a free, one-time, time-limited preview of the Service

5. Use of the AI functionality — important limitations

• AI-generated answers, quizzes and exams may contain errors and do not replace official course materials
• The AI assistant searches your own documents, but may supplement its answer with the language model's general knowledge; that part is marked as such
• You remain responsible for verifying the accuracy of AI-generated content
• We are not liable for decisions made based on AI-generated content

6. Your content

• You remain the owner of the documents you upload
• You grant us a limited license to process them, solely to provide the Service
• You are responsible for the content you upload or share in group chat

7. Course group chat — conduct rules

• Messages and attachments are visible to other users of the same course
• Inappropriate, offensive, or illegal content is not allowed; harmful files are rejected
• Text messages are deleted after 1 year, attachments after 2 years (except those marked as old exam questions)

8. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the preceding 12 months. This limitation does not apply in case of intent, gross negligence, or damage that cannot legally be excluded.

9. Termination

• You may delete your account at any time via your account settings (after confirming with your password or a code sent by email); that also cancels your subscription. If that cancellation temporarily fails at our payment provider, your account is not deleted yet — so you never keep paying for an account that no longer exists — and you try again later
• We may suspend an account in case of violation of these terms

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by Belgian law. Consumers can also turn to the European ODR platform (ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr).

11. Affiliate/founder program

As a founder, you can earn a cash commission by referring other users. The full rules for this are set out in the Affiliate rules, which are part of these terms.
